Now, imagine taking your pre-wedding photoshoot there. Lucky for you, the owners have opened up their one-of-a-kind store for Singaporean couples looking to take pre-wedding shoots at only $100 per hour. As much as possible, couples should try to avoid events like funerals. Attending inauspicious events is thought to bring bad luck for about-to-be-wed couples. Other interesting events to avoid would be events such as attending another friend's wedding or visiting a new mother that has just given birth.
The death of either the groom or bride's parents before the wedding would require the couple to marry within 100 days of their passing. Alternatively, couples should wait up to 1,000 days after their passing. This is a sign of respect for the dead.
Meeting another bride on your big wedding day is considered as bad luck due to the clash of luck. To prevent this, usually, friends & families would exchange Ang Baos instead of the couple.
There's a belief that a lady should not be a bridesmaid for any more than two times. Based on superstition, a lady would never get married if she does that. To prevent this, a bridesmaid can either catch the bouquet during a bouquet toss by the bride.
Compatibility of zodiac signs is important in Chinese culture. Guests with clashing zodiac signs are usually not invited for the wedding as key contributors, such as bridesmaids, etc in fear of back luck.
These may be superstitious beliefs, but it never harms to play safe. Even if you aren't, your more traditional parents might be if it is a Chinese wedding.
Singapore Marriage Registry? What is that? People think getting married is such a difficult task but not here in Singapore! You can literally get married with $50 if you are game for it.
You can apply for a marriage notice online or at the Registry of Marriages' web kiosks. Note that you may only apply for it 21 days or three months before the ceremony.
What is needed here is the date, time, and full address of the location (for non-ROM ceremonies). You will also need both parties’ and 2 witnesses’ (above 21 years old) NRIC/Passport to key in the details. And yes, there is a payment needed here.
Remember to print a copy of your payment receipt, Filing Instructions and the "Invitation to Solemnize a Marriage" form if you not having your solemnization at ROM itself.
You'll be invited to go to the Registry of Marriages after filing a Notice of Marriage (usually around 1 to 14 days before the date of solemnization). Both the bride and groom must be present and bring along the documents stated above (NRIC of bride and groom, Photocopy of NRIC of 2 witnesses, Filing Instructions and signed "Invitation to Solemnize a Marriage" form).
If you are having your solemnization at ROM itself, then only the bride, groom and two witnesses need to be present. ROM will assign a solemniser for you. For all 4 people, please bring along the NRIC or passport. All will be done in about 15 – 20 min and both you and your new spouse are officially hitched!
What about those solemnization outside of ROM? Fret not, it is also pretty simple. Firstly, get your own licensed solemniser (get him or her to sign the "Invitation to Solemnize a Marriage" form before your solemnization date)
On the big day, similar to the above, you, your spouse-to-be, 2 witnesses must be present. Your solemniser will also need to be there. You will need the original NRIC/Passport of you, your spouse-to-be, and the 2 witnesses. Present the documents collected from ROM during your verification of documents and statutory declaration appointment, and hand it over to your solemniser.
After the solemnisation and signing on the marriage certificate, the solemniser will return the Certificate of Marriage (white copy) to ROM, and the newlyweds will be given a copy. If your wedding is outside of ROM, you will be provided a copy of the Certificate of Marriage (coloured copy).
*For those who want to find your own solemnization location, you can do so once you’ve got all the necessary paperwork done. (But no one will stop you if you would like to do some “window shopping” now)
Online Gambling SingaporeIt has been a long tradition to give Ang Baos to not just the couple, even the bride and groom themselves has to figure out how much to give their wedding helpers. Well, the important thing to note is whatever is the amount, the gift should come from your heart as a form of blessing to the newlyweds.
It's not a must to adhere to the market rates, however, we would recommend guests to refer to a wedding banquet list, and then round up to an auspicious figure. This will be applicable for Muslim guests too.
The usual practice is to give only one Ang Bao for such situations. You may also consider getting a small gift for the first event, followed by the Ang Bao for the banquet.
Destination weddings are usually small. You are probably close to the couple since you are invited. We would recommend you to give more if the newlyweds are sponsoring your flight and accommodation.
Yes as the seats have already been booked for you. Imagine booking a movie ticket for your friend, only to have your friend bailing on you without agreeing to pay for the ticket. It's that simple. Admittedly, no one wants to miss a wedding without good reason, however as the couple has saved a special slot for you a small token of appreciation would always be appreciated.
If there are no meals involved, we would recommend somewhere between $50 to $80. You may also consider buying a small gift instead.
For Chinese weddings, '8' is an auspicious number and '4' should be avoided. Try to avoid odd numbers too. For India Weddings, amounts ending in '1' is an auspicious number.
